Weekly News

8/22/13

Site News:

Last week we were at Gen Con! This week we go over what we saw and try to catch up on important things – like sleep. Ryan also talks about our first-time experience at Gen Con here.

New Games:

Munchkin: Adventure Time is happening. I have a feeling that a lot of people will be really excited about this, but I’m just not one of them.

I am, however, a little enthused by Risk: Plants vs. Zombies. I’ve never been a big Risk player, but I can get behind the theme.

There are also a bunch of other Monopoly and Risk variants on the way, including Walking Dead and My Little Pony. Which is likely the last time you’ll ever hear My Little Pony referenced on this site. Feel free to send your angry, defensive emails regarding my lack of faith in your fandom directly to erin@cardboardrepublic.com. Your outrage is my ambrosia.

Fantasy Flight is putting out a new Warhammer game. Diskwars is set up to be a relatively quick battle game for 2-4 players. More info here.

Cryptozoic is releasing a DC Comics deckbuilding game. I’ve always been a little cautious of Cryptozoic, but they seem to have redeemed themselves recently. Might be worth a try if you’re a fan of the Batman.

Sentinel Tactics, a new hex-based combat game from Greater Than Games, was announced recently. It’s a team-based successor to Sentinels of the Multiverse, and thus I’m sure it will drum up a lot of interest.

Expansions:

Lords of Waterdeep, which is the favorite game of an Australian I met at Gen Con, has expanded! Scoundrels of Skullport is out now. I really need to play this game.

Fantasy Flight has released The Cosmic Storm expansion for Cosmic Encounters.

Other News:

Gaming tokens dating back nearly 5,000 years were found in a grave in Turkey. Look at those ancient pig meeple!

So remember last time when I was all “OMG, Eldritch Horror!” Yeah. Ugh.
