About Us

Founded in 2012 and based out of Lowell, MA, The Cardboard Republic aims to be a credible site for gaming-related news, reviews, articles, and more. With decades of collective experience, our team hopes to bring our own voice to the world of non-video games. This includes all manner of card games, board games, and conventional pen & paper tabletops.

As for how we intend to do that:

One of the cornerstone ideas you will see around the site is the idea of “gaming archetypes”. Our primary motivation is to expand upon the really common sense notion that not everyone plays the same game for the same reasons or in the same way. While, yes, bad games exist, just because a game may not apply to your sense of entertainment doesn’t inherently mean a game is poor.  (Think of movie critics). So, in our discussions we often will refer to the different types that exist as they pertain to the game / game setting. And of course, we wanted a place were those said gamers can have a site cater to their different gaming play types.

Our other main drive is the idea of the community aspect the gaming hobby embodies, both in playing games as well as creating them. We love Fantasy Flight and Wizards of the Coast just as much as the next geek, but we’ve also come to appreciate the unique creativity afforded to independent game designers and publishers. Here at the Cardboard Republic, we hope to help to bring some much-needed attention to various indie games out there. We want to provide them a means of support, as often great games can be overlooked due to the lack of adequate promotion.

Welcome, to The Cardboard Republic!
