Code In For Adventure: A Fallen Giveaway

You stare across the street from where you stand. The street is a highly congested four lane throughway. Off to your left is an axe-wielding maniac. Equally off to your right, your boss who will want you to come work the weekend. Greeaaat…

Do you:

  • A: Take your chances with your boss
  • B: Take your chances with the maniac

or

  • C: Play Frogger in the road

Spoiler alert: chances are all of them are eventually going to get you killed somehow.

In the typical fashion of classic Choose Your Own Adventure stories, rarely are you able to succeed at the best possible outcome. In this case, getting clipped by a car and ending up in the hospital may be your best case scenario. Obviously the maniac is a poor choice, and while facing your boss seems easy enough, you don’t know at the time that your office just so happens will be invaded by angry mole people over the weekend, dooming everyone inside.

In the same spirit of interactive fiction and these classic Choose Your own Adventure tales comes Fallen, a two player dungeon-diving board game with the exact same premise.

fallen indie cover

Using the concept of a decision-based storytelling game, Fallen has one player act as the hero; the other the villain. As the game progresses along, the hero is presented with choices that may benefit and help them through to the final battle. Do you save the injured knight, or attack the warlock? Do you face down the hydra or try to sneak around it? Do you touch the glowing orb or not? These are the myriad types of questions the heroic players can face as they try to win the day.

And the bad guy? Well, they’re there to make it as difficult as possible, naturally.

We want you to have that same opportunity to face down the Dungeon Lord. Or, you know, be the Dungeon Lord and thwart the irksome hero. So we’re giving a copy of this game away to see how you fare.

Now, we thought about how we could best come up with a means of celebrating a game that took the idea of iconic Choose Your Own Adventure stories and adapted it into something rather original.

And then it hit us: we’ll do the opposite.

Yes, in the spirit of Fallen, we went the other direction and have created a short Choose Your Own Adventure story just for you.

To enter for a chance at a copy of the game, all we’re having you do is to head over and try your hand at The Taking, a short CYOA adventure. Then, come back and tell us in the contest widget the Codeword that informs us how you saved the day, survived the encounter…or died.

There’s a lot of that last one by the way. Just like a real CYOA should.

That’s it! Pretty simple. Good luck adventurers!

From now until midnight on Friday, February 27th, you can check the contest out on our Facebook page, or by entering below. Just follow the entry form, and proceed with the contest. The more you do, even if just one, you still have a better chance than not entering at all. Of course you’re welcome to do that too. But your odds of winning drop to zero. No pressure or anything.
