Site News:

It turns out that Vox Republica made it past the pilot! Be sure to check out the regular updates every Thursday right here.

New Games:

BGG has the scoop on Prosperity, a new game due to premier at Essen in October. Designed by Reiner Knizia and Sebastien Bleasdale, it (unsurprisingly) sounds very euro. It’s an abstract, city-building strategy game using tiles. No word on when/if it’ll hit the States.

Hey, want another game about Venice? You do? Well, good news then. Venetia is due out at the end of 2013, and it pits you against other players struggling for power in the most-gamed-about-city-ever.

Fantasy Flight has yet another game in the works – Blood Bound, “a game of bluffing and betrayal” about vampires. I don’t know. I guess I should be glad it’s not about zombies. On the other hand, zombie bluffing game?

Expansions:

I spent the past week playing Civ V (Steam Sale! WOO!), so I’m pumped at the announcement for the next 7 Wonders Expansion, 7 Wonders: Babel. Bring on the civ building, baby.

Suburbia, Inc has a new expansion from Bezier Games. That is all I know at this point, but I’m already interested.

Other News:

Good Little Games, a website featuring free print-and-play microgames, is live. They have seven games up so far, and look like they could be fun for some light summer fare.

As someone who gave up playing Words With Friends because our editor, Ryan LaFlamme, is a vicious Scrabble monster, I can totally relate to this article about (un)real words in Scrabble.

Former Wizards of the Coast founder and current GenCon Owner Peter Adkison will be launching a new Kickstarter next week titled Hostile Work Environment. It’s a creative endeavor to use the stories created from memorable tabletop experiences into workable scripts. You can check out more at their Facebook page. Their first attempt revolves around Salem. Because why not.

Casual Game Insider, a quarterly board game magazine (because that’s how you know our hobby has made it) is currently running a Kickstarter to fund it for another year.

This comic shop is sending Magic cards to the troops overseas. Have any of your local game stores done something to support a charity or other cause?

And if gaming is my favorite thing, science is a close second. So, I was really excited by this article over at Purple Pawn on the link between physics and game theory.
